Lord Skitch - Dec 25, 2009 - Christmas Day

I couldn't think of anything particularly brutal and evil for a merry christmas thing, so have some Dethklok, with a spikey bloody merry christmas under them.

Happy christmas! =P
Thing for Today: Now if I can keep from burning the house down with candles...

Lord Skitch - Oct 08, 2009 - Site/Game Server Downage

Before people complain that either the website or the game server was down, around 6AM my IP changed, so I had to update the DNS which I did around 2PM, so... yes.

My IP's first octet changed, which when this has happened in the past, my IP changed again soon after. So it may go down again, fair warning.

As for the game server, it didn't "go down" it was just inaccessible via "connect www.the-coming.com" or via the "previously played on servers" or whatever it's called in Steam. If you looked at the server listing, it would have showed up there just fine.

Sorry there haven't been many posts recently, I've been kept pretty busy with school and such. Not a lot of time for much else.

I noticed you people have been yelling at me in the comments to post or go to Facebook, I don't use Facebook at all really, maybe once a month, and as I haven't had much time to post anything interesting on my own site, why would I post anything on Facebook. I'm not one of those psychotic facebook freaks who posts every insignificant detail of their day expecting someone else cares, such as:

7:00AM Status: JUST GOT UP! HELLO MORNING!
7:05AM Status: Brushed my teeth, ahh, refreshing.
7:10AM Status: Started breakfast, think I'll have Cheerios.
7:15AM Status: Nope, out of Cheerios, going to have Cinnamon Toast Crunch instead.
7:30AM Status: MMM! Breakfast is good! Time for a shower.
7:50AM Status: Showers feel great. Time to get dressed.
7:51AM Status: Can't decide if I should wear my black shirt, or ... my black shirt.
7:52AM Status: Decided on my black shirt.
7:55AM Status: Okay, all dressed, time to get to class!
8:30AM Status: Got to school, man, traffic is terrible!
8:35AM Status: Got to class, got 25 minutes til class starts. What should I do?
8:40AM Status: Decided to play on Facebook!
8:41AM Status: Meh, nothing to do on facebook, going to addictinggames.com
8:45AM Status: OMFG YOU GOTTA CHECK OUT THIS GAME (insert broken link here)
8:50AM Status: Okay people are showing up here now, time for class to get started.

And so on and so on. I hate it. Nobody cares. If you want a journal, they have other better suited things for that, not crap that when I log in once a month I see 400 entries on the page.

Thing for Today: IP changed, everythings fine now... you facebook freaks.

Lord Skitch - Jul 31, 2009 - Fixin' Crap

Router's fixed. The new daughter card got it back online, so total fix for it was only $30.

Here's the culprit behind the router not working. I'm just glad its back online.

For the rest of this weekend: recovering data from a blown up file server!

EDIT!
File recovery from the file server is now underway! The cost for the file server looks like it's gonna be around 350-500 though. No way am I getting another Terastation, I just want to build a lower power system that has easily replacable parts, and just a RAID 1 mirror for redundancy. That way I can pop the drive in any system and pull the data off, or swap parts directly to fix it.
END EDIT!

Thing for Today: Raid 5 is awesome for speedy reads and redundancy, but it sure sucks getting the data back off.

Lord Skitch - Jul 24, 2009 - Power Crap Update

Alright, run down:

Stuff repaired:
Cable Modem: Free from Comcast (No power)
Cable Box: Free from Comcast (No Power)
Sister's Computer: $25 (Blown Network Card)
Air Conditioner: $550 (Blown Capacitor, Control Unit)

Reparations left to be made:
Router: $30-$150
File Server: $100-300

Router
I ordered a $30 network daughter card for the router, not entirely sure when it'll get here. I hope that fixes it, because if it doesn't, I'll probably have to get a new motherboard for it.

File Server
I think if I can get a replacement unit, or just a motherboard, I can make a swap and get her back online. I'd rather prefer to not lose the data on there, because there is a LOT of unreproducible data left on it.

Thing for Today: All this small form factor equipment is very nice, but SUCKS to fix.
